Seeds of health

Adults and childred alike enjoy juicy grapes. The majority of us, however, prefer to spit the seeds out. But should we?
For example, the French are big fans of grapes and products made from them, above all, of red wine. And the overwhelming majority of them eat grapes together with the seeds. They have very low rates of cardiovascular disease and cancer and very rarely look big despite regularly eating lots of baked goods and dishes rich in fat. Scientists have even called this phenomenon the french paradox.

Millenia experience

Humanity discovered the value of the grape crop about 6000 - 8000 years ago: inhabitants of Ancient Mesopotamia, located in the Tiger and Euphrates valleys were not only skilled winemakers, but were also using grapes for health and beauty.

In all the countries where grapes grew and were processed, their healing properties were known long ago. According to the traditional medicine of Central Asia, grape berries cleanse blood and improve the condition of the respiratory tract and lungs. The great healer Avicenna, who lived in the 10th century, argued that the fruits of wild grapes are extremely useful for the stomach and the intestines: they help relieve nausea, as well as from “the heart longing and from acid created by food.”

- this is the poetic form that the French of the XVIII century used to describe the impact of vine juice on the skin’s condition. Science today knows that the grapevine juice molecule, viniferine, helps to effectively fight pigment spots and gives natural radiance to the skin of the face.

Pantry of nature

In the XX century, scientists discovered and proved that the main value in grapes is not the pulp of the berries (they contain not more than 10% of all the useful substances), but in its seeds. It is precisely the grape seeds that contain a set of chemical compounds that is not characteristic for any food product. This set has a comprehensive effect on the whole body and helps to preserve health and youth for many years.
First of all, it is worth mentioning that grape seeds are a source of unique polyphenols - proanthocyanidins, which stand out with their high antioxidant content, as well as anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effect. Polyphenols protect the body’s cells from damage and inflammation, improve blood flow and brain functions, protect the liver, and lower cholesterol
Grape seeds are also rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, contain vitamins E, C, A, and B9 (folic acid), potassium, sodium, iron and other trace elements and minerals with cytoprotective, antioxidant and regenerating effects that participate in the formation of vital enzymes.
Beneficial properties
Because of their complex and multifaceted chemical composition, grape seeds have an exceptionally beneficial influence on our body’s systems and organs. They accelerate metabolism and the function of the gastrointestinal tracts, help to stabilize the state of the nervous system and combat fatigue, and increase brain activity and resistance to stress.

Additionally, when a person takes grape seeds regularly they are significantly less likely to be sick with viral and infectious diseases.
The antioxidants that the grape seeds contain actively influence the condition of the skin: turgor becomes soft and elastic, the processes of cell rejuvenation and skin regeneration are accelerated.

In addition to all this, grape seeds are low in calories (63 KCal/100g) and are used in diets for weight loss.
